What is Timbuktu? It's a video game, internet location with multiple flatscreens and gaming counsels, and also computers with every game you can imagine to play, all games are provided by Timbuktu. There is also a huge screen with a projector and a rock band set up for mutliple players to play together!
What is a Lock-In? Lock-Ins are overnight gaming parties. This will be a private event which lasts from 10pm until 6am and students can play games all night long. Timbuktu has two entrances to the store, but the gates are locked after 10pm, and a bathroom is located in the store for lock-in customers only. Students should arrive by 9:45pm at the latest and can leave at any time, but cannot reenter. If they leave early, they will be escorted out by mall security who will normally wait with them until their ride arrives.
Ticket price includes all-you-can play gaming & internet, pizza, snacks, and pop. It's a great way to spend some time with your friends and help raise money too! If this event is successful, the hopes are to make it a bi-monthly event! To sign-up, place your permission slip & check (made payable to WMBC) in the envelope located in the band room. The United States Association of Blind Athletes (USABA) and the Michigan Blind Athletics Association (MBAA) are teaming with Warren Consolidated Schools (WCS) to host the 28th Annual Midwest Regional Goalball tournament, moving this annual tournament to the Metro-Detroit area for the first time. This tournament is one of the largest in the nation, featuring over twenty men's and women's teams from across the USA and Canada, providing some of the best competition of the season.
Goalball is a Paralympic sport created after WWII by blinded veterans. It is a team sport played by athletes who are blind or visually impaired. It is played on a gym floor and all participants are blindfolded to create a level playing field. The teams compete by throwing a ball with bells in it along the floor in an attempt to score on the other team by crossing the goal line. It is played throughout the world and US by both men's and women's team. The sport is exciting and competitive.
The tournament is in need of volunteers, sponsors and spectators. Volunteering is a unique and fun experience. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Becky Hercula at bmomrn@wowway.com or (586) 574-3047. Parents & students are needed, students can earn service hours! Sponsors are also welcome. Dates: Saturday March 3, 2012 8am to 8pm and Sunday March 4, 2012 8am to 1pm. Location: Warren Mott HS. Admission to the tournament is free and all spectators are welcome.
