Notes from the President
August 2004

Good Day! I
hope everyone is enjoying summer to the fullest!! Just
because its summer doesn't mean that the wheels of the
Music Machine have stopped.
We want to wish
the Miller Family the best in their new home! Ahhhhh,
home sweet home!!!
There has been
a new Associate Director recommended for hire.
We are just waiting for the final paperwork to be done
so we can officially announce his name.
We also would like
to welcome our new Warren Mott Principal, Pat Adams
and the new Assistant Principals Amy Hendry, Lauran
Hoven, and David Leshok. We are trusting that you
will enhance our students' experience at Warren Mott.
We are looking forward to working with you to make Warren
Mott all that it can be.
Band Camp preparations
are underway. If you haven't sent in your registration
- please call me! Our first week of camp, Aug 9-13, 9am
- 4pm, will be spent at Grissom Middle School, due to
construction at WMott. The second week will be at Storer
YMCA Camp, in Napoleon, MI. School busses will be departing
Grissom at Noon August 19. Students should arrive at 11:15
am. We will be returning to Grissom about 9 pm on August
23. During the first week of camp, students will be given
a list of items they need to bring with them. Make sure
they have shoes that support their feet well. They will
be on their feet a lot!!!
Our annual tailgate
party will be held on August 13 at the stadium at
WMott at 7 pm. We will provide meat and paper products.
Everyone bring a dish to pass and your own pop or water.
This is a great time to see what the kids have learned
and revel in the proud fact that your son/daughter is
a part of an exceptional team!
School registration...administration
is allowing 10th, 11th and 12th grade band students to
register early this year. They can register on Wednesday
Aug 18th from 7:30am - 9:00am. These are the only hours
available for registration on this day. Bring everything
they would need at the normal registration date. If they
miss this date, they can register at the normal time and
date on August 24th, the day after we return from Varsity
Camp. This is a great opportunity - don't miss it! Freshmen,
you will register during Rush Week registration.
Our first fundraiser
of the year will be Entertainment Books. This will
kick off on Thursday Aug 12. Books are $20 each and you
can sell to out of state friends and relatives. Students
are responsible for each book they take home. You can
even sell through the internet. Go to http://www.fundraising.entertainment.com,
go the seller's section, key in our account number 649378
and go from there. Call me if you have any questions.
Our second fundraiser
will be a Golf Outing at Sunnybrook Golf Course
on September 25th. Cost is $70 per golfer, includes 18
holes with a cart lunch at the turn, and a 3 meat buffet
dinner. Students have the opportunity to sell Hole Sponsorships
for $100. For every sponsorship sold, the student will
receive credit in their account for $25. See the enclosed
info or contact Tony Tocco @ 586.582.9712 for more info.
Due to scheduling
conflicts the band will not be performing at the
State Fair this year. The Fair moved their dates
and they conflicted with our camp dates. Don't despair,
because we're already looking forward to next year!
We encourage our
students to take private lessons. There is a list
of teachers in the Music Hall. This will benefit both
the students and the entire band program.
I'd like to take
this chance to thank Jim Paruch for handling our
Milan Fundraiser this year. We were dealt some unexpected
things and Jim handled them with ease. Thanks!
Please check out
our website at http://www.warrenmottbandclub.com

for keeping our site up to date! The Yahoo site is up
also. We use this site as purely an update system. If
you would like to be able to access this site please send
me your email address and I'll add you to the site.
Finally, our trip
this year will be to Toronto, Canada or Chicago,
Il, sometime in the Spring. We will have more details
soon!
Our next meeting
is Tuesday, September 7, 2004 at 7:30 in the Music
Hall. Join us and get in on all the action!!!!
See you all soon,
Lisa Murchison
