The Warren Mott Music Program
The Warren Mott Music Program offers three concert bands: Cadet Band, Concert Band, and Wind Ensemble, along with three jazz ensembles: Marauder Big Band, Jazz White, Jazz Red, Marching Band, and Choir. Learn more about each ensemble below!
Marauder Music Machine
The Marauder Music Machine is Warren Mott's Marching Band. We perform at all Home Football Games, Tailgate, Band O Rama, MSBOA Marching Festival, Glow Show, Collage Concert, Homecoming Parade and Thanksgiving Parade every other year. Additionally, our pep band attends some away games and powder puff. During the school year we rehearse from 6-8pm on Monday and Wednesday nights.
We have two weeks of band camp traditionally taking place the second and third week of July.
Band Camp 2027:
Week 1: July 12-15th from 9am-4pm @Warren Mott HS
Week 2: July 20-24th at Adrian College in Adrian, MI
Summer Rehearsals:
We have four summer rehearsals prior to the school year starting to prepare for the football season. These rehearsals are held from 5-8pm on Monday and Wendesdays.
Colorguard
Colorguard is a part of the Warren Mott Marching Band. Colorguard meets over the summer twice a week for the entire summer (traditionally 6-8pm) and also attends both weeks of band camp.
Colorguard is a great way to be involved with the band without playing an instrument!
Marauder Big Band
Marauder Big Band is our in school Jazz Band. Students must participate in after school jazz as a prerequiste and must be a 10-12th grade student. Doubling on a second instrument is welcomed! Marauder Big Band meets during 5th hour.
Marauder Big Band performs all around the metro Detroit area. In 2025 they performed for Career College Prep Center's open house, at Independence Village, MSBOA Jazz State Festival and at Aretha's Jazz Cafe in Detroit.
Marauder Big Band also performs at Pasta Fest and Jazz Night.
Wind Ensemble
The Wind Ensemble performs traditional and contemporary repertoire of the highest caliber, ranging from the sixteenth century to present day. Study of wind band music will be enriched with the study of music theory, history, and composition. Students in Wind Ensemble must demonstrate advanced ability through performance of advanced band literature, solo literature, major/minor and chromatic scales, sight-singing, and sight-reading. Wind Ensemble is audition only and ranges 9-12th grade. Auditions take place in the spring of the previous school year.
Students in Wind Ensemble are required to participate in Solo&Ensemble.
Wind Ensemble meets during 6th hour.
Concert Band
The Warren Mott Cadet Band is a non-auditioned ensemble made up of sophmores-seniors. Students in Cadet Band will demonstrate developing ability through performance of intermediate band literature, solo literature, major and chromatic scales, sight-singing, and sight-reading.

Cadet Band
The Warren Mott Cadet Band is a non-auditioned ensemble made up of mainly freshmen that focuses on the development of fundamental skills necessary to perform on their instrument in a group and individually. Students in Cadet Band will demonstrate developing ability through performance of intermediate band literature, solo literature, major and chromatic scales, sight-singing, and sight-reading.

Choir
The Warren Mott Choir is new the 26-27 school year. The Warren Mott Choir is made up of students grades 9-12th who want to learn how to sing and make music together! It is non-audition and takes place during 3rd hour.
After School Jazz
After School Jazz takes place in the fall and the spring twice a week after school from 2:30-3:30pm.
The fall session is from November-December and concludes with their performance at Pasta Fest. The spring session takes place from March-May and concludes with their performance at Jazz Night.
Since practices are limited, if a student misses more than 2 rehearsals they will not be able to perform in the final concert. After School jazz is non-audition and students are welcome to try a secondary instrument jazz instrument.

Ms. Gaynor - Director of Bands
Hi everyone! My name is Ms. Gaynor. I am so excited to lead and be a part of the Marauder Music Machine and the incredible things that happen here in the Warren Mott Band Program. I studied Music Education and Arts & Cultural Management at Michigan State University. After my time at MSU, I taught beginning band and served as a Woodwind Technician for a competitive marching band in the Chicago area before moving back to Michigan. Outside of music, I enjoy hiking, traveling, yoga, and spending time with friends and family. I am looking forward to a great school year.

Andrea Taylor - Colorguard Coach
Hi everyone! My name is Andrea Taylor.
Jon Genautis - Drumline Instructor
Jonathan Genautis is the drumline instructor at Warren Mott High School. He earned his bachelor’s in music education and percussion from Oakland University, where he served as Principal Percussionist of the Wind Symphony during his senior year, and holds a master’s in Music Technology from Southern Utah University. A snare drummer in the Detroit Red Wings/Tigers Drumline since its 2022 inaugural season, he completed student teaching at Warren Mott and has directed a variety of middle school and high school bands in the metro Detroit area, including his current position as director of the Warner Middle School bands.
Vickie Fernholz - Pit Instructor
Hi! My name is Vickie Fernholz. I have been serving as the Pit Instructor at Warren Mott High School since 2015, after graduating from Mott in 2014! After high school, I attended Wayne State University to study Instrumental Music Education and percussion. Since 2020, I have been serving as the Director of Bands at the Detroit School of Arts in Detroit, MI. In addition to music, I love reading, trying new restaurants, and doing pilates!
